1. Bangkok, Thailand
Thailand’s Capital! From street parties to the most beautiful sights, Bangkok is the perfect place for those looking for colour and vibrancy. Spend your days floating through the canals where you will pass talented craftspeople on boats selling their handmade items. Spend your nights in utter madness, drinking malibu from a bucket, eating scorpions and watching fire artists on the beach! The perfect way to make friends to travel the rest of Thailand with, whether you’re going north to discover the jungles in Chiang Mai or stopping off for a full moon party in Ko Phangan.
2. Delhi, India
The go to destination for any backpacker looking for a crazy place to visit, Delhi is definitely the place to go. As soon as you step off the plane, you will be hit with the smells and heats of India where you will then start your journey in an auto rickshaw. An experience in itself as drivers race each other down the wrong side of the road. You will pass families of 6 on one bike with beautiful sarees blowing and adding colour to the crazy roads. You will enjoy the most amazing foods and visit the most colourful and embellished hippie markets. Head to Paharganj if you are looking to meet fellow backpackers, super close to the New Delhi Railway station.
3. California, USA
San Francisco – Santa Barbara – LA
There are so many hippie destinations in California, the perfect idea would be to get a one way flight and travel through the state visiting and finding hidden hippie destinations.
San Francisco – So much hippie culture came from San Francisco, although it might not be as hippie now, you can still stop off here to find the culture which still exists (don’t forget to take a jacket even in the summer as it can get very chilly)!
Santa Barbara – With mountains as its backdrop why wouldn’t you want to visit! Extremely lush food and cocktails!
LA – Such an amazing place to find creative and extraordinary people full of life and adventure! LA was part of the huge hippie movement and still is a go to destination for those looking to release their inner wanderer! Venice Beach is an eccentric place to enjoy the sun and you will find many artists and free spirits!
4. Marrakech, Morocco
I am in love with the city of Marrakech, and as it’s not ridiculously far from the UK it’s the perfect place to pick up some hippie vibes without the long flight! Head straight to Marrakech Medina to find street artists, street food and the most amazing Souk. Spices, lanterns, embellishment, colour, hand painted tagine dishes, there is so much to find!
5. London, UK
Although, London might not be a top destination which is associated with hippies, there are so many quirky places to visit with hippie vibes. Portobello Market, Camden Market, Soho and Shoreditch are my favourite destinations in London. You can find eccentric artwork, eat the most interesting of foods, shop in quirky stores, search through vintage markets, listen to outstanding street music and drink at the most unusual bars. All of which attracts fascinating and unconventional people.
